What is Business Management?

Put simply, Business Management is the collection of skills and knowledge you need to successfully start, manage and expand your business. It does not necessarily have to be your own business, as these skills are useful in any job environment. They can help you to effectively manage your own time and success.

Also, something to take note of is the fact that it teaches you how to work with finances. Meaning you will have all the skills to make a success of any business you walk in to. Business management can also show you how to think critically, plan ahead and make informed choices regarding your company or job.

What can I expect to learn in Business Management?

Entry Level

This ICB course is broken up into 3 parts. The first Qualification is the ICB National Certificate: Small Business Financial Management. This course specifically helps you gain a more complete understanding of your business’s finances. It helps you get a grip on financial management for your business ventures.

All it takes is 9 months and this qualification is behind your name. With it, you will be able to apply for careers such as sales assistant, junior analyst and junior researcher. The skills you pick up include how to cost and price products and manage your working capital, as well as communicating effectively with the business stakeholders.

Intermediate Level

Your second qualification will be ICB Higher Certificate: Office Administration. This course teaches you all the skills to successfully manage and organise a business environment. In simpler words, how to get your ducks in a row!

The length of the course is 24 months, which includes the small business qualification above. With this, you will be able to manage your work schedule as a manager and operate efficiently as a general manager of a business. You can apply to be a customer service manager, relations manager or a senior office administration to name a few.

Advanced Level

The third qualification is ICB National Diploma: Financial Accounting. Financial Accounting is very much in demand in the country, which means it will be easy finding a job. This course teaches you the skills to work as an accountant, as well as allowing you to find work as a business manager. The time you study is 36 months (including the previous two qualifications).

After this time, you will be able to advance quickly in any industry you find yourself in. Some of the jobs you can apply for include financial accountant, accounting officer, manager or key account manager. After this course, you will be able to apply principles of strategic intent and strategic thinking in a global business environment. You will also be able to prepare a business for internal/external auditing and work with a management info system at a corporate level.

There are 5 ICB Qualifications in total. These include Public Sector Accounting, Financial Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Business Management, and Office Administration.
